Paralegal Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Course - HybridThis accelerated course teaches the real-life skills you need to be a successful paralegal and to prepare for entry- to mid-level positions in the legal field. You'll learn how to prepare trial notebooks, conduct legal research using LexisNexis, draft documents and participate in a hands-on legal service-learning project. You'll also learn about the various areas of practice within the law and have the opportunity to network and connect with the legal community. Notes: The Paralegal Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree to be accepted. Note: This is a hybrid course. The class will meet in-person for 48 hours on the dates and times listed above. The other 48 hours of the course will be taken through an online course management system. In addition, to keep progress of these hours, students will learn how to use a billable hour program.

As a post-baccalaureate certificate program, graduates of our program are eligible for membership into the State Bar of New Mexico Paralegal Division.

Paralegal Internship
The Paralegal Internship is part of the UNM Continuing Education Experiential Learning Program which gives students the opportunity to practice the skills learned in the classroom and apply them to real-life workplace situations. Paralegal interns are placed in various fields of the law, including government agencies such as Offices of the District Attorney and the New Mexico Public Defender Department, large and small law firms, and other areas. The students work under the direct supervision of a site supervisor which is typically an attorney or senior paralegal. In addition, the UNMCE internship supervisor will offer additional support to the student and monitor his or her progress in the program.
The Paralegal Internships are only open to graduates of the UNMCE Paralegal Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program. Acceptance requires successful completion of the program and instructor recommendation.
Dates and times are arranged with student based on their needs.
Legal Assistant
This certificate program builds a comprehensive skillset to prepare students for legal support careers. This course provides an introduction to legal concepts, including vocabulary and legal procedure. Strengthen written communication skills by learning how to prepare legal documents, notices, and pleadings. Learn about how to process law office billing and utilize eFiling programs. Enhance administrative skills such as phone etiquette, working with clients, filing and organization skills.
